RIDE FOR 90 MINUTES AT RPE 6-8: Don't underestimate how much food and fluid you'll need for a 90-minute ride. Most experts suggest that you'll need two large water bottles and two energy bars for a ride of this length in moderate to warm temperatures. Drink several swallows every 15 minutes and eat half an energy bar every 30 minutes throughout the ride. (Hint: open the energy bar wrapper before you start riding, then leave the bar in the wrapper and put it in your jersey pocket. This makes it much easier to get the wrapper off while you're riding, especially once your body heat has made the bar soft and sticky.)
