Talk Threshold Training Workout

Overview: This is one of those fun yet challenging workouts. It's also one of my favorites because you get a lot of bang for your investment time of 45 minutes.

The Talk Threshold Heart Rate threshold or TTHR is a very narrow range of heartbeats that correlates with the point where it is difficult to talk. At this point, you cannot sustain a conversation. You will begin to feel that the training intensity is hard, strained, and difficult. On a scale of 1-10 with one being the easiest, you would rate the work level as a 7 or perhaps an 8. Some call this point anaerobic threshold. It's totally your subjective feeling about when you hit this point. Note your TTHR number for future reference.

Workout: This is a 30-45 minute training session. The first five minutes is the warm up period. The next five minutes gradually increase your speed until you hit the training heart rate where it is difficult to talk. This heart rate number is near identical to the 2 x 20 minute number you experienced recently. Hold this heart rate number for 10 minutes. Actively rest at a recovery heart rate number, say 65% of your maximum for 3-5 minutes.

If you are real fit this workout will probably average 80%-90% of your maximum heart rate. If you are less fit it's in the 75%-85% of maximum heart rate range. If you are even less fit, it's in the 65%-75% range.

Discussion: This is a great workout for those who want to get more benefit in less time. Being a businesswoman, I quite often encounter others like myself who want to make more money and work less time. That sounds like a dream doesn't it? That's a harder formula to execute in business than in training yet that's exactly what you'll experience with this "Talk Threshold Heart Rate" workout. You'll find huge fitness gains in small amounts of time and enjoy it all the way to the bank.
