RIDE FOR ONE HOUR AT RPE 6: What cadence (speed at which you pedal) is best? Most riders find that a cadence of about 80 to 100 rpm is most comfortable. To figure out your cadence, count how many times your right foot hits the bottom of the pedal stroke in one minute. Although most cyclists generally pedal slower on climbs, don't let your cadence drop below about 70 rpm. Low, plodding pedaling is inefficient and can cause pain behind the kneecaps or inflammation of the tendons in susceptible riders.
