Day 046 - Standing vs. seated climbs

1-hour ride at RPE 6        Training via ActiveMail

RIDE FOR ONE HOUR AT RPE 6: Should you stand or sit while climbing? You generate more power standing, because your body weight helps you push the pedals down. But you also use more energy when you stand because your legs are supporting your weight -- the saddle supports your weight when you're seated. At a given speed, cyclists' heart rates are about five beats per minute higher standing than sitting. Generally, smaller riders prefer to stand more often than heavier cyclists. As we said two days ago, experiment and see what works for you.
