Day 001 - Welcome to your "century" training!

Rest day        Training via ActiveMail

IT'S A REST DAY: Welcome to your eight-week cycling training program. We're starting each week off with a rest day -- you don't really need it today, but in future weeks you will, because the longest ride of each week will have been on the day before. At the end of two months, you'll be ready to ride 100 miles (a "century")! This program assumes that you have successfully completed rides of 30 miles or about two hours and finished comfortably. If you can't, sign up for ActiveRoute's Bicycling Fitness Maintenance Program before you attempt this one. In this program, your daily rides are based on time rather than distance. The reason? The distance you travel with a headwind versus a tailwind, or climbing versus descending, means that the number of miles you cover isn't a good measure of the effort you've expended. The program also contains daily tips on riding technique, fitness, and equipment to make your rides safer and more enjoyable.
