RIDE FOR 45 MINUTES AT RPE 6 TO 7: On hot-weather rides, the water in your bottle can absorb heat from the pavement and get lukewarm quickly. To keep your drinks cool, you can prepare your water bottles the night before by filling them to within an inch of the rim with water or sports drinks, then putting them in the freezer overnight. They'll melt progressively as you ride, keeping the liquid cold. If you use a hydration pack like a CamelBak, put ice cubes in your reservoir on ride morning, then add water.
