IT'S A REST DAY: If you're serious about fitness, you'll have to ride in the rain occasionally. But if it isn't too cold, getting wet and riding through puddles can make you feel like a kid again. To be prepared for showers, stick a lightweight jacket in your jersey pocket or seat bag if rain threatens. It won't keep you dry but it will trap body heat so you can avoid a chill. Take it easy on corners when the road is wet. Lines painted on the road are especially slick, as are metal manhole covers and bridge surfaces. Eyewear is always a good idea to keep bugs and flying debris out of your eyes but rain can splotch the lenses so you can't see well. To shield your eyes and keep your glasses reasonably clean, wear a billed cycling cap under your helmet or choose a mountain bike helmet with a visor.
