IT'S A RIDE 45 MINUTES AT RPE 6: It's time for another quick bike fit check. Your bike seat has rails that are held by clamps at the end of the seatpost. The rails are several inches long so by loosening the seatpost clamps, you can slide the seat forward or to the rear. To adjust this "fore-and-aft" position properly, get a friend to help. Put your bike near a wall so you can sit on it and pedal backwards while supporting yourself with one hand on the wall. Stop pedaling when the crankarms (the "arms" to which the pedals are attached) are horizontal. Have your friend drop a plumb line (a heavy washer on a string) from the front of your forward kneecap. The plumb line should just brush the end of the crankarm. If it doesn't, slide the saddle forward or backward until it's adjusted correctly.
