RIDE 45 MINUTES AT RPE 6, INCLUDING 3 x 2 MINUTES OF SPEEDPLAY: After five minutes of easy pedaling to warm up and after you have been riding at an intensity of 6 for at least five additional minutes, try some fartlek. That's a Swedish term meaning "speedplay" and it's a fun way to increase the intensity of your ride. Simply go faster for about two minutes whenever the mood strikes you--jam up a hill, shift to a bigger gear, and crank hard with a tailwind, try to catch a rider up ahead. Keep it loose and unstructured. Do three of these speedplay intensity-increases today.
