Day 012 - Checking bike fit

Rest day        Training via ActiveMail

IT'S A REST DAY: It's time for a quick bike fit check. If your seat is too high or too low, you'll lose power on the climbs and may risk a knee or lower back injury. Fortunately, it's easy to check your seat height on your rest day. Position your bike near a wall so you can sit on it and support yourself with one hand while the other hand grasps the handlebars. Wearing your cycling shoes, pedal backwards until you're sitting comfortably on the seat. Then continue pedaling with your insteps on the pedal. Stop pedaling when one foot is at the bottom of the circle. If your seat is the correct height, your knee should be almost fully extended. This is a rough approximation of correct seat height (there are a number of more sophisticated methods but this one will get you in the ballpark) and you can fine-tune as you gain riding experience.
