Day 010 - Riding a straight line

1-hour ride at RPE 6        Training via ActiveMail

RIDE 1 HOUR AT RPE 6: Increase the length of your midweek ride slightly this week to extend your fitness. While riding, you often have to look behind to check for traffic or see where your riding companions are. If you try it, you'll often weave slightly as you glance back--not a good thing to do in traffic or when you're riding next to a friend. To look back safely, sit up slightly, then turn your head and shoulders to peek back over your left shoulder. Here's the trick to keep you riding a straight line. As you look back to the left, relax your arms. The relaxed bend in your elbows absorbs the twist in your upper body so the twisting motion isn't passed through your handlebars to your front wheel. Practice this move in an empty parking lot before you attempt it on the road.
