Day 036 - Ride safely and predictably

Day 34: 30-60 minute bike        Training via ActiveMail

WEEK 5, Day 6: 30-60 minute bike. Concentrate on keeping your upper body and head still while you ride. Any excess motion in your upper body is wasted energy. Today's bike tip: Practice shifting and braking on your bike. Learn to keep looking where you're going while shifting your gears -- keep your eye on the road and don't be tempted to look down to see what gear you're in! Become familiar with the feeling of your low (easy) and high (hard) gears. In general, you'll use your easy gears to go uphill, your hard gears to go downhill, and your middle gears for the flats. Also get used to slowing and stopping by using both your brakes -- the front (controlled by the left hand) and rear (controlled by the right) together. Don't just use one or the other.
