Day 019 - Getting through the swim

Day 17: 25-40 minute bike ride        Training via ActiveMail

WEEK 3, Day 3: 25-40 minute bike ride. This ride should feel easy. Don't try to pedal a difficult gear. Your legs should be spinning comfortably. This week we'll talk about some of the skills involved in swimming. For practical reasons, the stroke most commonly used in triathlons is the freestyle, also known as the crawl. The breaststroke, the backstroke, the butterfly, and others just aren't as fast or efficient. However, they are all legal--you can get through the swim leg of the triathlon any way you want. If you start to feel anxious or short of breath, as many people do in their first race, do the dogpaddle or tread water until you feel a little calmer again. Sometimes just getting your head out of the water for a bit helps a lot.
