Montrail - Vitesse (Cement/Pacific Blue) - Women's: Originally designed as the shoe that the winner of the Western States 100 would wear start to finish, the Vitesse has remained unchanged in Montrail's line since 1996. Many people are devoted to this shoe. Karl Meltzer (winner of the last two Hardrock 100s) won't consider any other models. Nothing wraps my foot and gives me the kind of security that the Vitesse does. Rebecca Rusch (Team Montrail) prefers the Vitesse for multi-day adventure races it is the most comfortable over hundreds of miles of pounding and stays that way in wet and dry weather. Specifically, the Vitesse has a nice roomy toe box that keeps your toes happy through the day and night. The sole is extremely protective, so your feet won't tire from sharp rocks. And the stretch-bootie upper design comfortably supports and seals around the ankle. The Vitesse works well for medium and wide feet (although Karl's feet are very narrow) and is best suited for mild pronators. Reinforced toe box shields against rocks, roots and a variety of trail hazards. TerraFlex forefoot plate maximizes protection without compromising flexibility. Lateral outrigger delivers superior stability against turned ankles on uneven trail surfaces. Hydrophobic upper repels water and dries quickly after crossing streams. Single density Elon EVA midsole. FasTrax carbon rubber outsole. Shoe weighs 11 oz.
