RUN/WALK FOR 2.75 MILES: Many athletes like yourself wonder whether they can do their training on a treadmill instead of outdoors. The answer is yes, but it has its tradeoffs. Treadmills are designed to cushion you from the impact of running and walking, so they're easier on your body. But for that very reason, they don't prepare you adequately for outdoor running. So if you're planning to do a 5K in 11 days, you're better off training in the same conditions as the actual event.
