Day 043 - RECOVERY

Your taper OFFICIALLY starts today. Don't do anything exerting, except for maybe an easy ocean swim or a few hundred yards in your local pool. Tapering is a delightful part of your training; it's where you're SUPPOSED to be lazy and enjoy doing easy workouts in preparation for your race day in two weeks.



Tapering is as much mental as it is physical, and many workout-aholics have a tough time scaling back their yardage without feeling guilty. Don't' let this happen to you! You have worked hard in the last 6 weeks and this is an opportunity to rest, recover, and put your hard work to use! You need to let your body bounce back from boot camp, and if you worry about getting out of shape (you won't) it will create unnecessary tension and you may psyche yourself out of your taper!



By the same token, do not take the liberty to spoil yourself with lazy behavior and desserts after every meal; while you can definitely treat yourself to a more relaxed lifestyle, don't get careless and put on 12 lbs. Between now and race day!
