Day 036 - RECOVERY

RECOVERY !        Training via ActiveMail

If you insist on working out (and you don't have to, as this was your toughest week), I'd suggest a long, easy, luxurious swim in an open body of water, maybe only a mile. If you will be wearing a wetsuit in competition, this will be a great day to try it out since they serve as flotation devices (and after the last week you may need all the help you can get to keep your tired body afloat!).

In wearing a wetsuit, it is important to note the tightness around your arms and neck; if it is uncomfortable and chafes, you need a larger size or an application of Vaseline or BodyGlide in problem areas. If the suit fills with water every time you take a stroke, it's too large.

At first you may find it hard to breathe; this is only a natural feeling for first-time wetsuit-wearers. The rubber suit is supposed to be snug, and it hugs your chest tightly so as not to let water in down the front. Don't hyperventilate; put on the suit and slowly enter the water taking long easy breaths; you will get used to the labored feeling it takes to draw in air, but it is disconcerting at first.
