MAKE TODAY A REST DAY: When you race, put in a good, hard effort that pushes your body to the edge of its aerobic capacity and slightly into the anaerobic. That is, you should be breathing hard and fast, but not gasping. You want to maintain your ability to process enough oxygen to supply your working muscles. This is a valuable running skill that only comes with practice, which is why this training program calls for up to 6 short races -- to give you that practice.
