Day 030 - How much time to train?

Take today to determine how much time you have available in a given week to train.        Training via ActiveMail

Today's workout is mathematical and not physical. I'd like you to calculate the training time that is available to you in a typical week. To do this you only have to complete three simple steps as follows:

#1. How many days per week can you train? ________days

#2. How many minutes per day do you have? _______ minutes

#3. How many minutes per week (multiply the two)?___min./wk.

The time you work out each week is called training volume. For most of us, it is easier to measure training volume in time rather than in distance because distance is harder to measure and less accurate because we often have to estimate it.

Determine your average weekly training time or volume and enter this into your Exercise Journal. You have just completed Step # 5 of The 10 Steps to Heart Zone Training. Congratulations. You are half way done.

Since this is the middle of the 8 week training program, let us have a quick review of The 10 Steps to Heart Zone Training:

Step 1. Determine your maximum heart rate. (Training Week #1)

Step 2. Set your five heart zones. (Training Week #2)

Step 3. Write down your training goals. (Training Week #3)

Step 4. Determine how fit you currently are. (Training Week #4)

Step 5. Determine your available training time. (This week, Week #5)

Step 6. Put your available time into the five different heart zones.

Step 7. Write a training plan.

Step 8. Do the workouts.

Step 9. Enter the workouts into your training log.

Step 10. Complete on-going self-assessments.
