REST OR CROSS-TRAIN EASY: As we've already mentioned, the bike, stair-climbing machine, and rowing machine all provide good cross-training for runners. Deep-water running (running in water too deep to stand in, with the support of a flotation device such as the Aqua-Jogger) is also a great alternative. Many gyms offer deep-water running fitness classes.
