Day 001 - WELCOME TO A NEW CHALLENGE

3,000 yards/meters nonstop. Record time.        Training via ActiveMail

Chances are, if you're reading this right now you've decided that you have room for improvement in your ocean swimming technique. You may be a novice swimmer altogether, or an accomplished Masters competitor looking for something new to try.

Regardless of your background, if you follow these 60 days of open water preparation-training, I can assure you that your next (or first) open water swimming event will be more rewarding, less intimidating, and perhaps even more enjoyable than you expected. The beauty, and challenge, of open-water swimming is that it is ALWAYS unpredictable. With no controlled conditions you should always expect the unexpected, and while novice athletes may find this surprise-element scary, the following training program is designed to familiarize you with the challenges of open water swimming, and hopefully provide a basis for subsequent successful outdoor swim competitions.

Okay, we might as well begin, no rest for the weary. Go to your local pool and swim 3000 yds/meters nonstop, making a note of the time it takes you to complete it (if this is not enough of a workout or seems like a warm-up to you, go ahead and do 4500 yds/meters instead). This will be your ""control"" gage, to mark your progress in the weeks ahead.
