Day 005 - Balanced body rolling

Day off (optional drill practice)        Training via ActiveMail

TODAY WE'LL LEARN BALANCED BODY ROLLING (BBR):

This is our first dynamic balance drill. Unlike the static balance drills, which focus on balancing in a single position, dynamic balance drills help you learn how to maintain balance while performing simple movements. Push off from the wall in the same position you used in the Front Balance (FB) drill, on your stomach with both arms at your sides, nose pointed toward the bottom of the pool, and begin kicking easily. Keep the crown of your head in line with your spine, and keep enough pressure on your buoy (lungs) to stay balanced. When you need a breath, roll onto your back, keeping your hands at your sides and keeping pressure on your buoy as you roll. Start rolling your body before you turn your head. If you roll your body before your head and keep pressure on your buoy as you roll, you'll already be in a balanced position when you reach your back (the same position as in the Back Balance drill). Stay balanced while breathing freely on your back. After you are sure you are well balanced and have taken a couple of breaths, roll again to your front. Begin rolling the body before turning the head, and keep pressure on your buoy as you roll. Do this drill rolling in both directions. Note: you may find you need more pressure on your buoy to stay balanced when you're on your side. Also, there may be a strong tendency to turn your head first before rolling the body, but do your best not to, because it always results in lifting the head and getting out of balance.
