Pure Water

On long rides, hikes or runs in the mountains, you might be tempted to drink from a clear stream if you run out of water. Don't do it. Most mountain streams harbor bacteria like giardia that can make you seriously ill. Carry enough water in a back-mounted hydration pack to last through the workout or pack a filtering system to purify water.
