Midday Soccer

For: All Athletes.
Time: Variable.
Description: Sometimes the best routine at lunch is to play a game. Soccer combines a game with good exercise. So grab a few co-workers, a soccer ball, and a playful attitude and run around on the grass.
Equipment needed: Soccer ball and other players.

If you happen to have a large field near the office, or even a large sort of empty parking lot, grab 3 to 10 others and play an informal game of soccer during the lunch hour. The fewer bodies the better—more moving around chasing the ball.

Use soccer rules, or make some up that suit the situation. For example, if you are playing in a parking lot that is bordered by cars, there may not be an “out of bounds.” Just let the ball bounce off the cars.

You can play “moving soccer,” where one person picks out the “goal,” which might be a tree, parking meter, sign or other object, and the others try to keep them from scoring. Whoever has the ball gets to pick the goal. This works well with 3 to 4 people.

You might want to penalize a goal by making the one who scores run around the perimeter of the field.

Don’t have a goalie; they stand around too much. Play offense and defense. The scores will be high, and that makes the game more fun.
